What was the Manchurian Incident? Why did it happen?

    Manchurian Incident or Mukden Incident, 1931, encounter that gave Japan the stimulus to set up a manikin government in Manchuria. After the Russo-Japanese War (1904-5), Japan supplanted Russia as the prevailing outside force in S Manchuria.

    The Manchurian Incident was executed in a Japanese invasion of northeastern China, on September 18, 1931.

    It happened to mark the dawn of Japanese military aggression in East Asia.

    The military seized the Manchurian city of Mukden.
