To demand that the eastern-controlled government provide western districts with more courts, fairer taxation, ang greater representation in the assembly, North and South Carolina carried out a revolt named as the War of the Regulation in the 1760s and 1770s.

The War of the Regulation lasted from 1765 to 1771, in which citizens took up arms against colonial officers. Although the rebellion did not change the structure of power, some historians consider it a catalyst for the American war of independence.
