    Sigmund Freud's work was based on the study of the unconscious mind using hypnosis methods.

    Why hypnosis? Because through this technique he was able to enter in the unconscious mind and study it to one purpose: explain conscious behaviour.

    This method he applied to 'cure' neurosis, he believed that neurosis (a conscious behaviour) was determined and caused by actions happened in the past, most of it at first ages of life.
