    The War of 1812 or also known as the Second War of Independence" was the reason why there was a Treaty of Ghent. The treaty was between the United States and United Kingdom signed on December 24, 1814. Among its conditions were Americans gaining large amounts of territory in what was formerly Canada. At this treaty, the prewar boundary between the United States and Canada was restored. The treaty mainly resulted into peace relationship between both countries with prewar territories maintained.
