During the Revolutionary War, and the French and Indian War, a fighting tactic was used for the British colonists and the natives. The tactics were Gentleman Warfare and Guerilla Warfare. My question is what Gentleman Warfare and Guerilla Warfare are?

The tactic they used was guerilla warfare for the most part. During that time, the traditional way in fighting was gentleman warfare in which large armies of soldiers stood in line and fired at each other. But during those wars, the French and especially the Indians used guerilla warfare by hiding behind natural obstacles such as trees and rocks and ambushing soldiers. So the British/colonist had to change tactics and moved more to that type of style which allowed them to win. In the American Revolution, the British used gentleman warfare against the continental army when they got the chance. But General George Washington realized that with the inferior training and weapons, it would be impossible to win. So the colonist started to used guerilla warfare and the British still continued with gentleman warfare which allowed the colonist to win.

All I remember is the people who lived in the area used guerrilla warfare because they knew the area better than the British and that was an advantage. They would fire and run.
