There are two major schools of thought on this question.

The first posits that we are now closer to each other than ever before, we are warring with each other less than ever before, we are safer and healthier, and people are living longer lives.

The second posits that we are increasingly isolated as a result of technology and are losing what it means to be human and that the system of nations that currently exist are keeping us from being able to live as one happy human family.

It would seem that the answer has to be somewhere in the middle. We are healthier than ever before. We have less war. But we still do have war. So, it seems like we've made improvements that are beneficial but that there are still harmful elements of society. Racism and poverty still do exist. Modern society's structures have, in essence, made some things a whole lot better and some things a whole lot worse.

    So, more improvements are needed!
