Why did president Johnson have trouble getting along with congress

If you mean President Andrew Johnson the reason is although Andrew Johnson was hand picked by Abraham Lincoln to be the Vice President and later President after Lincoln died, Andrew Johnson did not abide by anything that his predeccessor Abraham Lincoln had wished. Rather Andrew Johnson was negligent and did not even bother to try and aide the South during Reconstruction. Rather he let the Southerners do as they will, he also made it very clear that he didn't like the idea of giving African Americans the right to vote. Congress did not appreciate Andrew Jonhnson's attitude toward Reconstruction and African Americans. Rather than fixing the problems he took a step back and made it worse. African Americans although free were not really free due to sharecropping which basically was like the alternative form of slavery. Where African Americans were forced to work for whites on plantations to pay back money. This is why congress did not like Andrew Johnson he was too lenient on the South and did not make any sort of progress in the relations between blacks and whites. So they ended up overruling a lot of the Bills he vetoed and in the end Andrew Johnson was impeached.
