Newborns often mimic walking when held vertically and with their feet touching a solid flat surface. This is a primitive reflex called automatic walking reflex. Primitive reflexes are mechanical actions that are displayed by infants in early childhood but are suppressed as the child grows. The walking reflex is expected to disappear by the age of five or six months. Being that the case, he or she has to learn how to walk by imitating adults. Cynda's lack of mimicking walking proves the suppression of the primitive reflex.
