    The main purpose for establishing free access to schools was to guarantee equal education to all students, regardless of their financial status.

    In the past, education, even in its basic form, was reserved for the rich only, for people who were able to pay the school fees. Therefore, many children of the poor grew up without the basic of skills. This situation is still existing in many parts of the world today.

    Free and cost free education is a constitutional right in many countries and since introducing it the literacy rates increased and the child poverty rate decreased. This show that free education has achieved its intended goal and provided many with the necessary learning needed to get a job in the future.
