The Great Wall of China began to be built in 220 BC from Qin Shihuang, the Chinese emperor of that time. It was finalized only in the 16th century. The wall was erected due to the high incidence of invasions of the northern peoples from Mongolia and Manchuria. This construction had a strategic military defense function.
