Step one is to determine if you are eligible for citizenship.

You need to have lived in America for 5 concecutive years in order to qualify as a permanent resident or to have been married to a U. S citizen for 3 consecutive years.

One should be able to have basic English skills like read, write and speak, be above the age of 18, have a good record and moral standards of living.

Second step is to apply for naturalization

Naturalization is the process in which a foreign citizen is granted citizenship in another country.

A person will submit necessary documents to the United State Citizenship and Immigration Services who will look at it. The application process may take up to six or 14 months.

Third step is to take a biometric test

This is when they do all the background checks which is done by homeland security, Federal Bureau and other departments that will ensure that you are clear in all records before you can be considered eligible

Fourth step is to go for an interview where they want to establish your moral behaviour and all your characteristics

The fifth step is to take a civic test and English test this is done during the interview to establish if you can read, write and speak basic English and a test to find our about the person that your are as an individual.
