    Albrecht Dürer was born 21st May 1471, in Nuremberg. He began his apprenticeship under Michael Wolgemut which lasted for almost 4 years and produced his first painting, a portrait of his father in 1490.

    Dürer was an instant success as his talent which emerged early in his life and his early self awareness were evident in his paintings.

    Towards the end of his life, he delved more into theoretical writings. He completed The Teaching of Measurements in 1525 then, Various Instructions of the Fortifications of Towns, Castles and Large Villages in 1527. His last writing, Four Books on Human Proportion, was published after his death on 31 October 1528. This last piece is considered the most important of his writings.
