The vessel operator must first ensure that he has sent a distress signal to the communications tower that is located in any of the nearest shores that can be detected by their radio.

As soon as he makes a distress call, he needs to give the coordinates of the ship in order for the receiver to send the necessary aid needed for rescue or as response to the type of distress being given by the vessel operator.
