How did nationalism affect some countries in Africa?

The example of South Africa is that they have 'Afrikaner Volkseenheid''. It's an ideology which states that the African nation was created by God and is the chosen one and should rule the land. It has played a significant role in apartheid - theory about the need for a separate development of black and white people in Africa.
