How is the location of a place shown correctly on a surface of the earth?

The correct location on a place on the Earth is shown by using the meridians and the parallels.

The meridians are the vertical lines that are stretching from one pole to another, while the parallels are the horizontal lines that start from the Equator and make imaginary circles around the Earth in northern and southern direction. With the use of this two, we have the longitude and latitude at hand, so with a basic knowledge of cartography, every place can be located precisely on the surface of the Earth.
