In 1994, Lightdale and Prentice performed a psychological study to examine the relationship between video games and aggression using undergraduate males and females as test subjects. The subjects were split into two groups, individuated and deindividuated groups. The first group was given name tags and told that they would be evaluated at the end of the study. The second group was simply told that they would be part of a group for the study. The findings were very surprising. Males were more aggressive than females in the individuated group, but not in the deindivduated setting.
