Karen has just arrived on jeju island in korea to begin teaching at her first esl school. she will be teaching adolescent students at a university prep school with a strong focus on academic english. the students are divided by level. for grammar instruction, the beginner and intermediate students are taught by korean teachers, while the advanced students are taught by native english-speaking teachers such as karen. like many new teachers in her position, karen is very apprehensive to begin teaching her first advanced grammar class. there are some students in her class who are new to the school, and all of the returning students are new to the advanced level.

    I believe the answer is: Learn Korean so she can teach in the students' L1 for consistency with their previous courses.

    By learning Korean, Karen provide the possibilities for her students to hear the explanation of English language using the home language that they are familiar with. This would make it much more easier for the students to spot their mistake and improve their overall proficiency.
