Suppose we did an experiment that gathered data on the time a person could stand balanced on one leg. subjects in our experiment are timed standing on one leg with their eyes open, and also with their eyes closed. are these data paired or independent?

    The pairs of data that can be generated through the experiment that is devised above are: (1) standing in one leg and eyes open and (2) standing in one leg and eyes closed.

    The data are independent because whether the eyes of a certain person is closed or open, the amount of time that she or he can stand on one leg is not affected.
