The final version of men was made from maize and was significant to the Mayan people because those men had feelings and could worship the gods.

According to the Popol Vuh, the final version of man was created out of maize. To Mayan People, maize was a sacred and divine food, a source of life and wellness, for it was tied to their everyday life, it was in their meals (in many forms, such as flour, cornbread, etc.), it could be easily stored, it was useful in the making of items (such as baskets) and its growing cycle gave them a certain sense of time that influenced their festivals.
