I believe the answer is: News networks have reduced the number of overseas bureaus.

The main purpose of news networks is to keep your attention to their channel. Which mean that displaying the news that happen near us is the most efficient way to keep our attention glued to them, since it would much more likely affecting our life compared to the news overseas.
