    By crushing this Hungarian uprising, the Soviet Union had struck fear into its many members. It told nations like Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria that there would be punishment and a counter against any uprising or resistance. However, it also had the effect of making members almost resentful as a result of the brutality.
