Which century saw the most growth of the cabinet? How many departments were created?

    The 20th (1900-1999) century saw the most growth in the cabinet. About 8-9 departments I think.

    During the Johnson administration (of the president Lyndon B. Johnson, not Andrew Johnson) two new cabinet-level departments were established:

    Department of Housing and Urban Development (established on September 9, 1955)

    and

    Department of Transportation (established on October 15, 1966)
