Why does temperature vary with altitude and latitude?

    Altitude:

    As you reach a higher altitude, you get higher up in the atmosphere. As you go higher up, the air pressure decreases. This means there is less air around you, and so the temperature decreases.

    Latitude:

    Latitude measures how far you are from the equator, a horizontal line that divides the earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The equator receives the most sunlight throughout the year, and so its temperatures are higher. The closer you are to the equator, the higher the temperature is. The further you are, the colder it is.
