According to maslow's hierarchy of needs, people would not have desire to fulfill other higher desire unless all of their basic needs are met.

But in real life, there are too many examples that indicates people do not actually operate based on maslow's hierarchy of needs.

For example, a lot of people choose to abandon food (basic needs) in order to look thinner and more attractive.

    Other examples:

    - Abandon safety and doing dangerous sport to gain fame

    - Abandoning your friends in order to pursue your passion
