Since 1990 people in Timor Kosovo and Kurdish Iraq have all protested their lack of Country/Nation State

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, many new countries were formed which were previously Soviet Satellite States. This included Poland, Estonia, Ukraine etc.

This was a time of many turmoil around the world and many regional independence movements began where disenfranchised local populations rose up to demand a home for themselves.

In East Timor, the local population sought independence from Indonesia which was granted to them in 1990 as the UN Stepped in and Indonesia moved out it's forces.

Kosovo's issue has been more complicated and even today it is only partially recognized as an independent state. The UN recognizes Kosovo's independence and the country even uses the Euro as a currency.

However, Serbia refused to recognize it as an independent state.

The most tragic of all has been the liberation of the Kurdish people who have been calling for a country of Kurdistan for over a century.

Their movement was brutally crushed by Saddam Hussain in Iraq, while their movement in Turkey has also not been able to meet any ground.
