Describe the way armies turned civilians into soldiers during the civil war

There were various ways that soldiers did in order to turn civilians into soldiers. Some of them simply recruited the civilians to join the war, others forcefully turned them into one, while others had no choice due to the armies destroying their properties - leaving other soldiers without a choice but to join.
