He lived a really sheltered life because he was a royal. When he was 18 he left the palace for the first time and saw the three main problems with society. They were old age, disease and death. He figured a way to let go of the pain of these things and that is what the Buddhist religion is based on. He reached enlightenment and became the first buddha
