Representative government in England began with the Magna Carta that limited the power of the King and later the rights in it were also allowed to the people. Later Parliament came up with the Bill of Rights which required the King to consult with Parliament before acting. The Glorious Revolution saw the replacement of James II with William and Mary as England’s new monarchs and this was done through Parliament. This showed a transition from monarchial to parliamentary government. It would also affect the Colonies that would give rise to the United States.
