According to Descartes theory of dualism, the human mind or soul is separate from the physical body, and they both merely interact together. This is also known as the "mind-body dualism". While the physical body is made up of separate parts that can be removed (if one loses a limb), the soul is non-physical, and cannot be separated into different parts. Descartes further claims that since the soul is separate from the body, it still exists after the body perishes.
