In impression management, the backstage is the perception that we had toward ourselves whenever we are 'safe' and free from other people's judgement.

This means that it would include the time when we're alone in our private place and conducting a self - evaluation toward ourselves. (such as when you're reflecting on your life in your room or when you're meditating)
