The Empire of the Incas was one of the great prehispanic cultures that dominated the American Continent. Their capital city was Cusco, which is located in the mountains of the southeastern part of Peru.

The Incan Empire had a strict control over the distribution of resources to its people. A "Curaca" was the local ruler, who was in charge of the administrative affairs of a particular area. Among his duties, he was in charge of the distribution of food and other goods. People under the empire received limited resources, however, they all served a role in society and had a job. There was no unemployment. Idleness was not tolerated.

This radically changed with the conquest. The uneven distribution of resources occurred, as well as unemployment.
