Role of the oligarchy and aristocracy in rome history

Oligarchy and Aristocracy played a very vital part in the history of Rome. There is no challenging the fact that Rome was in the hands of the aristocrats for a long time. This type of rule is sometimes not good for common people. In Rome the council of Aristocrats was the decision makers. To become a member of the council a person had to come from a rich and powerful family. There was little chance of election as most council members were chosen by virtue of their birth rights or were just selected from powerful families.
