Compulsory education was one of the greatest achievements of the country during the Gilded Age. During these years, the number of students increased significantly. Thousands of schools were built, and these benefitted many people, including African Americans and immigrants.

Compulsory education impacted populations in several different ways. It allowed immigrants to become more assimilated to American culture. It also contributed to the reduction of gender inequality, as both males and females were entitled to receive an education. Moreover, this practice allowed marginalized groups to gain the necessary education to move forward in life.
