What happened to the colonists who opposed the Declaration of Independence

Many, but not all, colonists who opposed the Declaration of Independence, the loyalists, fled to the other parts under the Crown, either to Britain, or to Florida who was still under the Crown. Some of them stayed and accepted the situation.
