Child abandonment can be classified as a felony in some countries but in other countries not.
Explanation:
It depends on the law in the state. The consequences than depend on the state where the person who abandons the child is living. The fines can go from monetary to jail.
If the parent abandons the child he or she could lose parental rights. The consequence of this is the foster family to which the child goes.
