    A. Charlemagne

    Explanation:

Although the history of christianity in Europe is complex, Charlemagne is known for spreading it through a lot of new territories.

Charlemagne was king of the Franks from 768, and king of Italy from 774. Later in the year 800 he became the first emperor in Western Europe since the Western Roman Empire collapsed. He became very famous for his military campaigns which lasted thirty years, his main objective was to take Europe out of the confussion of the dark years and unite it by spreading Christianity. First he fought against the Lombards in the north of Italy; then the Saxon Wars came where he overthrew Saxony and converted the conquered to Christianity.

He was able to rule Western Europe and had control of present-day France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and parts of Austria and Spain.
