The Boxer Rebellion, Boxer Uprising, or Yihetuan Movement, was a rebellion that took place in China between 1898 and 1900. The uprising was led by Chinese nationalists who wanted to disrupt and prevent the rise in foreign influence in China as well as the growth of Christian influence in the country. The rebellion came at a time of growing foreign intervention in China which angered nationalists and began to sow the seeds of rebellion. Then an 8 nation alliance (UK, France, USA, Japan, Russia, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary) led an invasion into China to suppress the rebellion and ultimately defeated them.
