    Carl Maxey was the first Black attorney from the region of Spokane who gained huge respect while fighting for the civil rights of African Americans from the region of Washington. He was appreciated by many for his staunch stand for the civil rights of blacks. He worked even with Martin Luther King Jr. acquiring fame of a national leader fighting for civil liberties. He was even criticized for disrupting the status quo.
