    The end of land-ownership restrictions led to development of large plantations needing more laborers.

    Once Egmont retired in 1742, James Vernon became the indispensable man. Vernon had only missed 4 of 114 meetings during the last 9 years of the Trust and supervised the removal of many things. Such as restrictions on land tenure, rum, and slavery.
