For A little bit of context, the attack to Fort Sumter was initiated by the Confederate army in 1861. This basically the first attack that began the American Civil War.

At that time the southern media portrayed the attack as something patriotic. They painted as a heroic war against the federal government that tried to take control over their economy. (at that time, the federal government wanted to free the slaves. This will cause economic damage to the southern states)

The northern media on the other hand, portrayed the attack as a barbaric behavior. Rather than solving problems with diplomatic action, the southern states were so quick to resort to violence.

This showed a media bias in different regions of the country.
