    The reason why the policy of brinkmanship replaced in the cold war was: It always lead to a crisis.

    In the policy of brinkmanship, we tried to influence our opposition rather than to fight. When applied, that opposition often tried to leverage this to get our guard down and attack us when we're not prepared
