Explain why the Constitution calls for three branches

    For checks and balances, so each branch can have equal power. (e. g. the president's cabinet doesn't get more power than the justices)

    Each part of thegovernment is connected to the other. Each has its own responsibilities and powers. A system of checks and balances prevents one branch from gaining too much power.
