    2. supported schools that taught the arts and sciences

    Explanation:

The regency period exercised by Luis's mother officially ended in 1651, when he was 13 years old. Luís assumed the throne, but the regent Mazarino continued to control the subjects of State until his death in 1661.

The Treasury was near bankruptcy when Louis XIV took power. Things have not improved since he spent money extravagantly, spending vast sums of money financing the Royal Court. Part of that money he spent as a patron of the arts, funding names like Moliere, Charles Le Brun, and Jean-Baptiste Lully. He was also responsible for the construction of academies of arts, sciences, painting and sculpture.
