It was considered that God is punishing them for their sins so they must pay for it. In this era, people started to believe in God, feared and asked for mercy. Many churches and cathedral were built to show their devotion towards God. Eventually, people came to believe that by doing honest work and showing devotion towards God will bring them to salvation.
