    I believe the answer is: Newly developed synthetic fabrics like nylon and rayon led to a decrease in demand for cotton

    In term of comfort, Cotton actually might beat nylon and rayon.

    But, the textiles that made by both of the synthetic fabrics tend to be cheaper and much more durable compared to Cotton, which shift a lot of market demand toward synthetic fabric-based products.
