    The Big Inch

    Explanation:

The Inch pipelines (The Big and The Little Big Inch), are petroleum pipelines extending from the state of Texas to the state of New Jersey.

They were built between 1942-1944 as emergency war measures to transport oil. The previous sea route was attacked and made useless by German submarines.

The Big Inch pipeline was 1,254 miles long, the Little Big Inch 1,475.

The pipelines were owned and financed by the American government but were built and operated by the War Emergency Pipelines company. Today, they are owned by Spectra Energy Partners and still in use.
