Last week, a college football player in a school hundreds of miles from where you live suffered a concussion, and he will be unable to play for the rest of the season. Your paper ran a brief about him. Now, a football player for your school has suffered the same injury with the same result, and the paper is devoting a full page to him and his injury. Answer: Proximity

Explanation: Proximity simply means closeness or nearness. Proximity could me measured or determined in terms of geography or neighborhood, relationship and so on.

Proximity as a news element gives more credence or value to events which has taken place in a geographically nearer location to that which occurred farther beyond. Readers are more interested in occurrences within their geographic environment.

This is the element employed by the news which reported the event closer and within her region as it will draw interest from more readers than that which occurred in a farther location.
