A Standing Committee is a permanent panel which considers bills and issues and also recommends measures to their chambers. The majority of these are related to decisions regarding funding. It is also dedicated to the monitoring of agencies and programs within their jurisdictions.

A Select Committee is selected by a separate resolution of the chamber and their main purpose is to conduct investigations and studies. They assess issues that are not directly associated with the action or field of any existing Standing Committee.

A Joint Committee is made of members of both The House and Senate. They normally take care of internal, administrative affairs. For example, the Joint Committee for Printing which supervises the functions of the Publishing Office.

A Conference Committee is a temporary joint committee whose task is to resolve differences regarding the versions of a measure of both the House and The Senate.
