What is one reason for the United States to develop alternative-energy sources?

One reason would be because there could be only few oil reserves. There could be a reason for energy sources to stop if the oil reserves and the supply could be lessen, providing no energy resource. That is why the United States tries to discover new alternative energy sources that could also contribute into making energy and prevent it from losing sources.
