Answer: B. to destroy the South's economic ability to fight

Explanation: General William T. Sherman wanted Southern civilian population to leave the Confederate cause. His troops demolished many railroads and countryside, all food supplies was completely destroyed and he had left their morale completely shattered since they thought the confederate cause will be able to protect them.
